The database was created as part of the PRIN 2022 Project The Borghese Gallery and its Publics, 1888–1938 (funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU, Mission 4 Component 1, CUP E53D23014060006) by the Scuola Normale Superiore, which is also responsible for publishing the documents related to the fifty-year period 1888–1938.
The Normale team, which between October 2023 and February 2026 conceived and developed the database and carried out its initial population, consisted of Lucia Simonato (Principal Investigator of the PRIN Project and Scientific Director), Andrea Ficini (IT Project Manager), Pier Ludovico Puddu (Scientific Consultant and Interinstitutional Coordinator), and Jaya Di Domenico (Archivist).
The project was developed in collaboration with the Borghese Gallery, in particular with Francesca Cappelletti (Director), Emanuela Settimi (Head of the Historical Archive), and Maria Giulia Rinaldi (Digital Curator).
As envisaged by the PRIN project, at its conclusion the management of the database was entrusted to the Borghese Gallery, which handled its graphic design and will independently proceed with the publication of archival materials dated after 1938.
Acknowledgments are extended to the University of Vienna and the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid.
